This page is currently under development but when completed will be a gateway to learn more about Australian eSports and how Frag Labs is working with other organisations and teams to develop the local pro-gaming scene. At Frag Labs we are passionate about eSports and Pro-Gaming and take our responsibility as a supporter and promoter very seriously.
Only a few decades ago many of the sports we regularly watch on primetime television were amateur including Rugby League and Union, Cricket and more. In the same way that these sports have found their way into the national consciousness we believe that competitive gaming will continue to grow until it becomes a part of Australia's sporting culture.
eSports are one of the purest tests of skill in existence, pitting two or more competitors against one-another in computer games which require immense individual skill, strategy and technique. Some of the games that have become the most popular environments for competition are Starcraft, Warcraft III, MOBA (DoTA), Counter-Strike and Call of Duty. What all of these games have in common is a dedicated online community which develops individual player skill, a focus on balance to ensure a level playing field and usually some level of 'hidden depth'.
'Hidden depth' means games that are easy to play and understand but difficult to master, where a player's success depends on their own mastery of the skills and strategies intrinsic to the game. The additional benefit of this is that these games are very entertaining to watch and easy to understand for even an uninitiated audience. eSports have other advantages over traditional sports, being uninhibited by geography and not requiring the almost superhuman physical gifts required of professional sport at the highest level. In eSports anyone can achieve their absolute potential with a combination of practice and study.
At Frag Labs we have developed our entire business around a core of performance gaming which is heart and soul of eSports. We choose to use our resources to support local eSports teams and events to help develop better levels of local compeition and new and exciciting opportunies for Australian gamers.
While at the moment there are very few people in Australia who can rely on professional gaming to provide their full time employment we see a time in the not too distant future where these opportunities will be available for driven and talented individuals and teams and we devote considerable energy and resources to achieve this vision.
We have provided support to gaming events as well as individuals and teams which take part in competitive gaming at the highest level. Whether providing equipement or subsidising travel and entry fees we feel that every dollar and minute we spend developing Australian eSports is of huge benefit to the whole Australian gaming community and of course our own business as a specialist gaming system builder.
Almost every month around Australia there are LANs being run by dedicated local teams to provide a venue for both competitive and social gaming. If you want to get involved in eSports the best way to start is to get involved in your local gaming community and these events are an excellent start.
There are also a number of online communities dedicated to competitive gaming which offer opportunities for gamers to find others to form teams and also to keep a track of what the already established and successful teams are up to. Also check out the eSports commentary teams and services that are available in Australia and listen and watch some matches to learn from the best.
Of course the most basic advice is to play games, play often, play online and meet new people. Use these contacts to get involved in social competitions and ladders and gain experiance before you strike out and enter the serious money comps. Always remember that 'steel sharpens steel', playing against better competition is a great way to learn new techniques and tactics and develop your own individual skill.
